Whilst the children have flown, Karen Reay occupies her time with her passion for pilates and wellbeing as well as running a Ukulele group in Malaga city. Read her story.
Why Spain?
We lived in Valencia 2010-13 with our teenage girls and loved it. We love the culture, food, the history, the people and the relaxed way of life. We are here as empty nesters now living in a suburb of Málaga city called Teatinos.
What was the biggest challenge for your move?
Saying goodbye to family and friends plus selling all our furniture. We arrived with just 26 boxes delivered by UPS!
Do you have any advice for Women thinking about making the move?
Do your research in regards to areas and jobs. Rent first before you buy.
What do you get up to in Málaga?
I am a Physiotherapist and a Pilates teacher (online, small group classes).
I also help weekly at a Christian run food bank in the city where I also teach English to refugees wanting to improve their job prospects.
I also love playing Padel (cross between tennis & Squash)
My husband and I run a Ukulele social group and continue to improve our Spanish with twice weekly classes at the Government run Language School in the city.
Something you are grateful for?
Starting my own Physiotherapy & Pilates business here in Málaga.
Who would be at your special dinner party?
I would have a large dinner party with Martín Luther King, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, William Wilberforce as they all showed the compassion of Jesus.
What’s your secret weapon or accomplishment?
Knowing God as my Father.

How wide and long and deep is the love of Christ
