Spain has some very beautiful natural parks and one of them, Sierra de Grazalema, is now home to Erin Cabrey. She invites you to slow down and explore. Read her story

Why Spain?

Lovely to be in this group. I am originally from New Zealand – my journey to meeting and marrying my Spanish husband in 2016/2018 is a long one. I had a successful career in the finance sector in London – for over 12 years but before that various work commitments in Russia, the United States, Italy and various other countries.

And where are you now?

Now based in the Sierra de Grazalema, Cadiz

What was the biggest challenge for your move?

I am still adapting – especially after being involved with an international business community all my life my biggest challenge continues in meeting other women who have also had lives and careers internationally.

Do you have any advice for Women thinking about making the move?

Learn Spanish – especially if you plan to live in a predominantly non English speaking community.

How do you spend your time?

Mainly learning how best to promote my holiday rental without using online travel agencies – I find it really interesting as Google analytics- writing my own website – learning about search engine optimisation is all new learning for me.

Instagram will load in the frontend.

Something you are grateful for?

I’m very grateful for all of the women who have guided me in life – be it for work, personal challenges and socially.

Who would be at your special dinner party?

My grandmother for her down to earth attitude and sense of humour, Amal Clooney for her intelligence and humanitarian work, Maya Angelou for her inspirational words.

What’s your secret weapon or accomplishment?

Practical – hard working

Do you have a favourite quote?

Good quality sleep is fundamental to a balances life

One thing you had to bring to Spain and could never give away?

My father’s watch

Do you have a favourite film?

The Big Short – movie – helped me understand the financial crash of 2008 and how big banks played on the emotions of normal people who just wanted their own homes.

Something you would tell your younger self?

Slow down – walk in nature as much as you can.
