Following the furore over plans to erect a limited number of elegant skyscrapers in Marbella – which would have caused minimum disruption to the landscape while giving the town a much-needed new selling point as destinations strive to stand-out from the competition – my pro-build stance has the backing of one of the Costa del Sol’s slickest luxury estate agents, Paradise Marbella Realty.
Servicing rich Russian, Asian and European buyers from plush new offices in Estepona’s upmarket El Saladillo district, directors MaryCarmen Soto-Skotnicka and Arek Skotnicki are perfectly placed to assess the positive impact the high-rise homes would have made.
Speaking to Pro Write on 27/6/14, MaryCarmen agreed that Marbella would remain unspoiled had construction plans been given the green light. “If the skyscrapers were located on mountain tops away from low lying areas, people wouldn’t have been so opposed to the idea,” she suggests. “Imagine how amazing the coast would look from up there…at the moment it’s mainly lucky residents living in La Zagaleta who enjoy spectacular panoramic views.”
Comparing landscape marketing opportunities with other popular destinations, Arek noted: “The Costa del Sol doesn’t promote its unique landscape enough like they do in the USA, where well-designed high-rise buildings are recognised as international status symbols. We’re looking at ways of introducing more panoramic vistas showing potential buyers what a truly unique paradise life is here on the Costa del Sol.”
It’s refreshing meeting industry insiders with innovative ideas for attracting foreign buyers: doing away with the need for costly helicopters, the pair are discussing the use of drones with a local landscape photographer to capture unique high-definition images showing-off the coast in a visually stimulating light.
