Swapping film sets for sunshine and wellness, meet Yasmeen Arruchi

From Amsterdam to Vancouver to Marbella – Yasmeen swapped film sets for sunshine and wellness. Meet Yasmeen Arruchi who peels the onion to find her answers.   Read her story.

Why Spain?

Spain has always captivated me with its rich culture, vibrant lifestyle, and the perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Originally from Amsterdam but having spent years living in Vancouver, we felt a pull to return to Europe. After a high-pressure career in film, I craved desperately a slower, more intentional pace of life. In Vancouver, I had already began a new chapter with Lumina Women’s Wellness, supporting women in their health and well-being. Moving to Spain felt like the natural next step—a chance to bring my passion for wellness into a Mediterranean setting, embracing a life filled with sunshine, warmth, and community. The slower pace and emphasis on connection offered the balance I was searching for and became the perfect backdrop for this new chapter.

And where are you now?

We arrived in Marbella in 2024. We drove around a lot trying to figure out where our spot would be.

We did not want to depend on a car! We wanted to be able to walk most places… restaurants, gym, tennis, groceries, neighbourhoods and shops plus be near the ocean. All huge deciding factors for us. I can literally walk anywhere (except golf)! Which I am not very good at but do love!

What was the biggest challenge for your move?

Our biggest challenge was finding accommodation. We had contacted roughly 50-60 apartments that showed available. Two people got back to us. It was very stressful.

Do you have any advice for Women thinking about making the move?

If you need to see the apartment before you move in (for me is a must), it might take a bit longer than you expect to find an apartment.

How did you find your business passion?

About 4 years ago, while still working in film in Vancouver, I started taking female coworkers on Wellness Tours to Morocco. Having family in Morocco made this an easy and natural choice. I noticed how demanding our industry was on health and well-being, and I wanted to help women develop tools to manage stress, anxiety, and imbalances. Shortly after, I began training as a Health Coach and am now close to completing my studies as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) Practitioner. My days are spent building my wellness business, creating women’s wellness retreats in Morocco, and growing my online and in-person coaching practice. I also prioritize my personal wellness—daily beach walks are a must, along with another form of movement, whether it’s improving my tennis skills, discovering a new hiking trail or finding a hot yoga class.

I love exploring Spain’s vibrant culture and continually learning to deepen my expertise in holistic health.

What is something spectacular you would like to achieve in just one day?

If I could achieve one spectacular thing in just one day, it would be to guide a group of women through ‘The Glow Code’ and have each of them walk away with a renewed sense of energy, and insights to hormonal balance and mental clarity.

By addressing common challenges like unexplained fatigue, brain fog, weight management, and hormonal transitions, I would love to help unlock the connection between food, movement, and self-care. Seeing women feel empowered to take control of their health and leave with the tools to restore their well-being would be an incredibly rewarding experience.

Personally, my own experience with gut health issues, which doctors couldn’t resolve, led me to find holistic solutions that ultimately helped me become pain-free. This journey not only restored my health but also guided me toward my new career in health and wellness. I’m grateful for that experience, as it pushed me to seek out alternative methods and gave me the insight to help others in their own healing journeys.

Something you are grateful for?

I feel incredibly grateful every day for the opportunity to do work that aligns with my passion for wellness and empowering women. Professionally, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made with my health and life coaching business, especially in creating programs like ‘The Glow Code’ that help women regain energy, mental clarity, and hormonal balance.

Who would be at your special dinner party?

If I were to host a dinner party, I’d invite a mix of people who inspire me in different ways. Ricky Gervais would be there to make me laugh, Deepak Chopra for his profound inner wisdom, and Johann Sebastian Bach because his music resonates deeply with my emotions.

I’d also invite Jack Nicholson for his cool, effortless charm, and Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight to bring some soulful energy to the room.

It would be a lively mix of humour, wisdom, music, and soul—a perfect combination for a memorable evening!

What’s your secret weapon or accomplishment?

I don’t quit. I peel the onion and find the answer.

Do you have a mantra you live by?

“Trust the journey”.

For me it means embracing each experience, both the highs and lows, as part of a bigger picture. Life’s challenges, like my own health struggles, have shaped who I am today and led me to where I am now without knowing it. I believe that every setback or detour is an opportunity for growth and learning.

Trusting the journey reminds me to stay open to what’s ahead, even when the path isn’t clear.

One thing you had to bring to Spain and could never give away?

Collection of jewelry—both my cherished pieces and the fun, costume jewelry. I love to mix and match!

Do you have a favourite film?

Super hard question because my mood determines what I would watch. Green Book, Million Dollar Baby, The Note Book.

Something you would tell your younger self?

Don’t give up so quickly. I’d remind myself to be patient, stay focused, keep pushing through challenges, and trust that the effort will pay off.
