BeSafe Pregnant - how to optimise your safety when travelling by car during pregnancy
PRESS RELEASE BeSafe International – info@besafe-international.com Tlf. 91815 2814     BeSafe International once again leads the way in road traffic safety during pregnancy with the launch of the NEW BeSafe Pregnant IZIfix, already considered the most innovative safety product in 2013 in the Nordic countries.   It is recommended that all pregnant women sit in the back seats of a car during the last months of pregnancy to optimise their safety and that of their unborn baby.   HTS BeSafe recognised the need to incorporate this option to the existing pregnancy seat belt adaptor BeSafe Pregnant, launched in Spain over 10 years ago by expat Nicole King, road traffic safety specialist and resident in Spain (based in Madrid and Marbella) for over 20 years.   In fact, thanks to Nicole’s persistence the laws in Spain were finally changed in 2006 to meet international requirements which require that even pregnant woman use the seatbelt during pregnancy due to the adaptor BeSafe Pregnant protecting them from possible injuries from using the belt.   The BeSafe Pregnant is considered the safest option by traffic and health specialists for maximum safety and recommended as of the 2nd month of pregnancy. (DGT, Asoc Matronas Nacional, Asoc. Matronas Andalucía etc.).       Following 2 years of investigation and development the NEW BeSafe Pregnant IZIfix comes with the additional feature of *ISOFIX connectors, making this the only seatbelt adaptor that can be used in the driver, passenger or back seats of any car.   The BeSafe Pregnant has created a new category of child safety seat, for the unborn child : the Group -0     BeSafe Pregnant offers máximum safety due to it’s optimum geometric design, positioning the lap belt in a “V” position between the legs which does not interfere with the standard seat belt nor create slack.  The seat belt must be positioned below the abdomen but tightly against the body to avoid any slack, the factor that presents most risk for mother and baby in case of sudden breaking or collission).   The BeSafe Pregnant is available in all specialsied baby and car accesory stores, including Mothercare, Prenatal, Babies R Us, El Corte Inglés, Dulce Bebé, Norauto, Feu Vert…   Background:   One belt, two lives Protects both mother and unborn child   BeSafe Pregnant iZi FIX is designed to aid safe travel for pregnant women and encourages seat belt use during pregnancy   Motor-vehicle crashes (MVC) are the leading cause of deaths from maternal trauma in the United States Automobile crashes are the greatest cause of death for pregnant females(1) and the leading cause of traumatic fatal injury and mortality in the United States(2.) In a 3 year study of injury and mortality in selected states, 82% were a result of maternal injury in motor vehicle crashes(3. An average estimate from several sources indicates that each year in the U.S., approximately 160 pregnant women are killed in motor vehicle crashes and an additional 600–2600 foetuses are killed when the mother survives.(4   Number of fatalities per year in the U.S. MVC Fetus MVC Bike Pedestrian 0-4 Years 0-15 Years 0-4 Years 1) Weiss, 2001; Weiss and Strotmeyer, 2002 2) Weiss and Strotmeyer, 2002 3) Weiss 1999 4) Weiss 1999;Klinich, K. D., 1997,   Placental abruption (separation of the placenta from the uterus) is the most common cause of traumatic death amongst unborn children.5) It occurs in 1 – 5% of minor severity crashes during pregnancy and from 20 –50% in severe crashes during pregnancy.5) For example some placenta abruption may result from high velocity or from the compression between the mother’s body and the belt or steering wheel.5)   Recommendations based on research: (6 • 3-point belt should always be used. • The lap-belt should be worn as low as possible. • The seat should be positioned as far back as possible.   Results of incorrect lap belt positioning Incorrect belt position Correct belt position with BeSafe Pregnant iZi FIX 1. 2. 5) Klinich, K. D., Schneider, L. W., Moore, J. L., and Pearlman, M. D., 1999, 6) Moorcroft, Stitzel, Duma, 2004   Protect yourself and your unborn baby when travelling by car!   BeSafe Pregnant iZi FIX is for Pregnant women to help position the 3-point car belt correctly.   Ensures the correct position of the lap belt in the car.   This correct positioning is very important to protect both the mother and the unborn child. It makes sure that the lap belt can not intrude into the abdomen and that the mother can not be subjected to submarining (sub-marining = when the mother slides under the lap belt towards the front in a frontal impact).   Prevents the lap belt from intrusion into the abdomen. The BeSafe Pregnant belt does not interfere with the safety performance of the 3-point car belt, but it helps to position the lap belt so it always stays in the right position.   Can be used in all vehicle seat positions.   The BeSafe Pregnant iZi FIX has 2 possible ways of installation in the car: 1. With a strap around the vehicle seat. 2. With 2 FIX connectors in rear vehicle seats when isofix anchorages are fitted (when used with isofix, you can take the strap off).   With these 2 options you can use the product in all positions in the car, a unique benefit from BeSafe.   Incorrect placement of the car belt     Recommended from 2 months of pregnancy!   BeSafe Pregnant iZi FIX installation: Installation with strap and 3-point car belt: Installation with ISOfix and 3-point car belt:   Well embedded in Scandinavian traditions, the core values of BeSafe are safety, innovation and design. At BeSafe, safety is our main priority and we are dedicated to developing the safest possible road safety products for you and your child.
