#LivingInLockdown – Day 36

Day 36 – Monday 20th April

It is weekly statistics day and boy has that proved a headache this week. The official figures, for week ending Sunday 19th April, have had a format change. They are now breaking down new cases by how they were tested, PCR versus Antibody, not sure if this means they’re counting cases they didn’t previously. Then the Madrid number says it includes 1385 cases that are not new, but I’m not sure why. If you remove that from the weekly new case figure it reduces down to 8432 new cases this week in Madrid.

That means new cases in Madrid have flattened but have not decreased from last week. New cases in Spain have decreased but not by a great deal. The death rate has continued to decrease significantly.

I’m not sure what to make of these figures to be honest. According to the press the hospitals in Madrid are getting back in control and they have closed one of the halls at the IFEMA field hospital. The government is also talking about beginning to loosen the quarantine by allowing children out for short periods. However given the continuing trend of new cases I can’t see them relaxing the rules too much.

There are calls to relax the rules more in regions that have little or no cases. Unfortunately Madrid is not one of these and something tells me I’ll be stuck at home for some time yet.
